Girl Scout Camp July 2013

It's the trip we've been waiting for since she joined as a Daisy - SUMMER CAMP!  wahoo!! Camp California Girl Scout Summer Camp - Pioneer weekend in the woods!  Here's a few photos of our Happy Campers  all fresh and clean and all smiles:

It was a two-night adventure - perfect for older working moms (like me) who need at least one night in their own bed (aka NOT on the ground in a sleeping bag) every weekend, otherwise they risk a visit by CPS and/or getting fired the next week at work.  There were plenty of planned and structured actvities and low-key adventure time as well.  At one of the first stations the girls learned to light a match safely and to start their own fires.  Lulu wasn't so sure about that as she's still a pretty cautious kiddo.  They got help from an older staffer scout and they had some flames in no time!

The camp was so dry and the dirt was a fine brown powder - so with every step - POOF - a big cloud of dust.  We all looked like little Pig Pens from Charlie Brown walking around in our own bubble of filth.  Here's little brother:

Aaaannnndddd - leave it to Lulu.  Wherever Lulu goes...there's a party - or if there's not she'll be sure to start one! Case in point - this fine bamboo structure they were building was far better suited for...

Another quite hysterical station was run by a local MD (and wife of the camp organizer).  She was giving them basic first aide advice when an "injured" jogger all "bloody" from a fall ran into their tent and collapsed in front of them...the girsl were quite surprised - good show!

Another favorite station was the kettle brownie eating and decorating.  Nummy!

Sometimes in camping you have to "rough it' a bit and just eat 

around the burned black parts of the brownies :)

Another fun station was the "What's wrong w/ this Campground" test.  The staff had put up a horrific tent camping site and the girls had to take notes about what was wrong with it - fun way to learn.

Far and away though the favorite free time activity was the ropes bridge - kudos to all the girls that mastered it like Champion Woodswomen:
